The highlight is the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that feels like stepping back into the Middle Ages. Spend at least a full day wandering its grand Public Square, soaking in the stunning architecture, and walking along the city walls for breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea.
2. Hvar: Island Bliss
Moving north up the coast, you’ll reach the island and town of Hvar. This charming destination is perfect for browsing shops in its quaint side streets or relaxing at a waterfront café. But don’t miss the chance to take a water taxi to the nearby Pakleni Islands. My favorite spot was Palana Beach, a hidden cove with turquoise waters that’s pure paradise.

Zadar is also a great base for a day trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Speaking of Plitvice Lakes, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was the one place in Croatia I was most excited to visit—and it did not disappoint. The park features a series of crystal-clear turquoise lakes connected by cascading waterfalls. It’s a nature lover’s dream and a photographer’s paradise.
